On June 1, 1982, Thornburg Investment Management was founded by Garrett Thornburg in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Initial offerings include municipal and taxable fixed income strategies.
By the 1990s, Thornburg launched its first equity strategies, investing in U.S. and international markets while continuing to expand fixed income solutions.
Thornburg introduced global multi-asset income and emerging markets strategies. The firm opened its new corporate campus, receiving a LEED Gold certification, and featuring the integration of architecture and advanced environmental technologies.
Thornburg began expanding to serve clients around the world with UCITS fund solutions and an office in Hong Kong. Responding to growing investor interest, the firm launched its first ESG strategy focused on international equity markets.
